Creating Your Video Introduction

Option #1 (Preferred - YouTube closed-captioned video)

Record an introduction video on your mobile device or computer (shoot it horizontally, not vertically), then upload into YouTube to get it auto-captioned. Deaf and hard of hearing students--please record your video in ASL, or your preferred mode of communication, and then caption it. Why auto-caption? In order to create an inclusive learning environment.  Captioned videos are accessible to Deaf and hard of hearing students, and easier for English language learners to understand.

YouTube makes it easy to caption videos that you create.  Here are the steps:

After recording an introduction video on your mobile device or computer go to YouTube https://www.youtube.com/

1. Either create an account or use your existing YouTube account.

2. Upload your video into YouTube.

3. Select "Unlisted" so you can share with the class, but not everyone online.

4. Drag or Drop your video.

5. Click the "Publish" button, upper right.

6.  Select "Subtitles/CC" from the drop down "Edit" next to the image of your video.

7. Click on "English" from the "Set video Language" box.

8. Click in the caption text box to activate editing function and make corrections. Be sure to capitalize words and add punctuation where needed.

9. Click "Save changes" button.

10. Your captioned video is ready!

11. To make additional changes use the "Edit Video" button

12. Copy the URL

13. Go to your online class Welcome/Introduction discussion topic, scroll down and select "Create New Post" button.

14. Click on "Embed from Web" and paste in your YouTube URL.

15. To view your captioned video, click on the "CC" button.

Option #2 (Non-captioned video upload)

After recording your introduction video on your mobile device, or computer:

1. Go to the Welcome/Introduction topic in your class.

2. Click on the "Create New Post" button.

3. Scroll down to find and use the "Add Media."

4. Upload your video into your post.

Option #3 (Non-captioned recorded with "Record Video" tool)

1. Go to the Welcome/Introduction topic in your class.

2. Click on the "Create New Post" button.

Step 2

3. Scroll down to find and use the "Record Audio/Video."

4. Record your video.

Step 4

5. Press "Stop Recording" button when finished.

6. Select "Preview" to view and "Post" to upload into the discussion topic.

Once your video is processed, it will appear as a post in the discussion topic.
